The next stop on our journey north was Beaufort, South Carolina. Not to be confused with Beaufort, North Carolina, which also has a Beaufort, the name of this town is pronounced differently. The first syllable rhymes with the word
“you”. So it’s pronounced
“bYOU-ferd", and of course said with a Southern twang.
With all the inlets and converging river systems in this area, not to mention the strong tidal shifts, we often can see where two currents from two different areas converge. Even in the channel, the depths can see drastic changes. For us with our shallow draft that hasn't posed much of a problem. We often take the lead and radio back depths for our buddies on Perfect Balance to pick their way through problem areas.

The next day, after a bit of a slow morning, we put in a day
of uneventful travel and anchored in a
little river called “Tom Point Creek”.
We are once again surrounded by grass covered islands. We awoke to fog
and, once it lifts a bit, will begin to poke our way along to Charleston,
SC. As a person who has read “Gone with
the Wind” several times, this will be an exciting stop. We hope to spend some time exploring.
On a final note, I have been reminded (repeatedly, I might add) that I have been remiss on reporting my progress in the euchre department. Yes, Jeff and Mimi had their moment of glory the other night and squeaked out a victory. They have pointed out (repeatedly, I might add) that I have neglected to mention this on the blog. So there you go guys. With Jim's excellent tutelage (NOT "table-talk" Mimi, "tutelage") we were able to recapture the winners' cup. I have; however, been declared tutored enough. From here on in no more "help".
