Harbour Island to Cheboygan
Stats:  7:30 to 2:00  39.5 nautical miles

I can stands what I can stands and I can’t stands no more.  We both needed an internet fix. So it was Cheboygan bound for us as it was the closest town that had a Verison store.

We woke up early to a calm, beautiful sunrise and headed out right away for a short run across Northern Lake Huron .  We had 4 or 5 feet rollers coming from the East and metre high waves coming from the West.  That made for a bit of a rolly, but uneventful crossing.

Cheboygan is a town built along the Cheboygan River.  We putted down the river, waited for the swing bridge to open (on the quarter and three-quarter hour) and tied up directly past the bridge on the Cheboygan Municipal Marina starboard side wall.  There is quite a current on the river, so that made for an easy landing.  We looked for someone to pay, or ask permission to stay the night but we could find no one.  Oh well.  We hoped for the best.

From there we walked the half hour or so up Main Street to the Verison Store, bought a MiFi device and 10 Gigs of data, some cheap American beer and wine, and headed back to the boat for a quiet dinner aboard and a google-feast.  I was able to play hide and seek with my grandbabies on facetime before they went to bed!  (They hide mom's iPhone somewhere, with me in it, and I have to guess where I am. "Hmmm? Under the bed??")  Awesome!  I miss them so much sometimes.

We hadn’t realized that we were right beside a small ferry dock and had a bit of a surprise when we looked up and saw trucks passing by about twenty feet away where the river was supposed to be, Yikes!  The ferry turned around in the narrow river right there beside us and docked.

We slept well tied up on the wall of peaceful little Cheboygan.

We took a picture of this "unusual" marker, only to find out later that they're all over the place.
Smooth crossing, but cold and windy!
