St. Joseph

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Stats:
Grand Haven to St. Joseph.  7:15 – 3:00.  73.7 nautical miles
Weather:  Whoo-hoo!!!

And.... we're off.Lake Michigan, you sly dog, you’ve been hiding your pretty side.  Gorgeous water.  One to two foot waves, a few swells, but, hey, this is the BIG lake.

Amazing cotton candy clouds reflected in the water.

Turn around and Voila: East view.  sunrise 7:30

We had a wonderful cruise today, taking turns at the helm and enjoying the day.  We cruised straight to St. Joseph, where guess what, ANOTHER free wall with two plugs – one for the both of us, Gran Vida and Perfect Balance – and both plugs were available. Love it!

While enroute, I discovered that in St. Joseph there is the “largest marine supply store in the Midwest!”  They offer to come down to pick up boaters and drive them to their store and back.  We took advantage of THAT deal and found all sorts of things we needed for the boat.  Jim, Mimi, Jeff and I piled into the car and Laurie, from Andiamo (a boat we met back in Ludington) came along as well.

Tonight, we’ll pool our resources and enjoy a dinner with Jim and Mimi again and have an early night. Tomorrow the weather forecast is for a perfect day: one to two foot waves, ten knot winds from the West, which suites our course.  Unless that changes, we’re planning to take advantage and make the big crossing across Lake Michigan.  Then we’ll be in Chicago!

As we were cruising along we noticed this weird cloud.
We watched it and wondered about it all day.
As we got closer we learned it was from a nuclear power
plant blowing off some steam.
A few shots from the park we are tied up beside in St Joseph:

ducks in a row (dump ducks)
railway swing bridge.  A train went by
while we were eating dinner
tied up along a wall.
Nice place to spend a night.
Birds on posts...  one of these things is not like the others.
Those herons, always trying to fit in.
