North Port

Stats:
Charlevoix to North Port.  6:30 – 10:30  21.5 nautical miles

Gran Vida. At anchor as
the sun gets low in the sky
We’re getting frustrated with the strong winds and high waves.  Yeah, yeah, we know.  This is typical for Lake Michigan in September.  That doesn't mean it doesn't get on our nerves when mother nature starts dictating our plans.  Jeez.

Fixing perpetually windblown hair

This morning our plan of attack was to get up early while the waters and winds were still relatively calm and sneak up on them.  That worked out great at first but by 9:30 we were bouncing around with waves coming out of the South and rollers coming in from the West.  At least that's what it looked like to us, but either way, it was not comfortable. They were predicting it was going to pick up in the afternoon so once the furniture in the salon started to bounce around we pulled the plug and stopped into the lovely little town of North Port.  We anchored in the bay in about eleven feet of clear, green water.  Jeff watched some golf and did whatever he does when he's hanging up-side-down into the hatches.  I believe changing the oil in the genny was the project today, amongst other things.  I read, helped Jeff where I could and got busy in the galley cooking a couple of meals to grab on the go so IF, by chance, we have a good day, we can just stay on the helm and get in as many miles as possible.

At this rate, it will take us quite some time to get down Lake Michigan.  They are predicting better conditions for tomorrow (we’ve heard THAT before) and from the South (which would be in our favour) so we are hoping to try the same tactic tomorrow and make another sneak attack on Mother Nature in the morning. I will say, it is kind of neat to get up in the dark and watch the sun come up while we're underway. Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky and be able to put some serious tracks down.  Tomorrow the target is Leeland.  We'll see....

Where's Waldo??  One weed amongst the lovely ornamental grass.
