That dot is one of the many Monarch's starting their 50 something mile journey across the Lake. |
We got up early (not as early as yesterday) and checked the weather. It looked like another good travel day so up went the anchor and we were out of there. It was a fairly uneventful passage. We took turns at the helm and bounced along on our merry way for several hours.
A few things of note: We must be on a monarch butterfly migratory route or something because every few minutes we saw a monarch fly by. Jeff tried his best to catch one on camera but they flitted by pretty quickly and we were bouncing around quite a bit.
Also the whole coast of Lake Michigan that we've been passing is made up of HUGE sand dunes. They are amazing and we often see houses perched up there with a cliff that appears to be mostly sand washed away in front of them. Yikes.
We pulled into the town of Ludington shortly after noon. We were thinking of moving farther but the weather forecast for the next few days is not good. Gale winds and thunderstorms with waves up to FIFTEEN feet. So we are hunkered down for a few days. As Ludington is a bit of town there are a few stores and services available for us.... And a kick-a** beach! I'm hoping the storm holds off long enough for a morning jog along the water's edge.
Jeff was rewarded for his patience in trying to get the perfect Monarch shot by this little guy. The perfect pose. |
The Badger in it's parking spot across from our marina. It sounds a VERY loud horn on arrival and departure and we heard it leaves at 6:00 a.m. So much for our much anticipated sleep in! |
