Barkley Lake

 Stats:
Cumberland Towhead anchorage, MM 0 Cumberland River to Canon Spring anchorage, MM 52 on Cumberland River.  7:00 – 3:00.  52 Miles

We could hear the wind howling all night long and the boat was bouncing and tugging at anchor.  We awoke to a thick mist whipping past the boat in large puffs. I've never seen anything like it.  It was an unusual sight BUT, a welcomed one as we knew the sun was on its way and it was only another half hour or so before it burned that mist off....  And, that meant we got to take a slow morning and enjoy the show over a second cup of coffee.  Yay!!  It was fresh out there with a sudden temperature drop down to six degrees, thus this weird howling mist.

The day was uneventful.  We traveled down the river and enjoyed the sights while taking turns at the helm or doing boat chores.   This river is far narrower than the Mississippi or Ohio and more scenic.  We only encountered one tow.

We passed through Barkley Dam and Lock, which dams up the Cumberland River to create Barkley Lake.  After the lake, it narrows down again to a continuation of the Cumberland River.

We caught up with Potest Fiery, the Nordic Tug we were travelling with before at MM 52 on the Cumberland.  We rafted off their boat and shared a yummy home-cooked dinner, visit, stories and laughs. Thanks Susan and Danny!

Tomorrow, buddy-boating with Potest Fiery, we're on our way to Nashville.  Yee-haw!
Lowla meets Hab Bear.
