Stats:
Metropolis on the Ohio River to the beginning of the Cumberland River. 10:30 - 3:00. 24 miles.
We had a pretty easy day today. It was rainy in the morning so we walked up the hill to check out the little Museum in Metropolis and then went to the grocery store down the street. We were concerned about the depth at the dock we were tied to, as the river depths fluctuates quite a bit and the wicked dams were up, so that meant the water where we were would probably drop. We certainly didn't want to be sitting on the bottom so we shoved off in windy, drizzly weather and headed towards the first lock.
That's Ohio River continuing on the left and the start of the Cumberland River on the right.
We hung a right onto the Cumberland River.

It's not ALL fun and games. This is the scene while we were waiting in the wind, rain and waves for the lock to open. Brrr |

Pretty much the scene all day, once the weather cleared. |
We had an uneventful day on the Ohio River and decided to quit early, throw some steaks on the grill and enjoy the day. We are anchored behind an island at the beginning of the Cumberland River, Mile Marker 0, perfectly poised to make the thirty mile trip along the Cumberland to the Barkley Lock tomorrow. Then into the Kentucky Lakes. At this point we're thinking we will be just passing through the lake on our way to Nashville. There's some hockey (home of the Nashville Predators) and a music scene that needs to be investigated. The trip to Nashville is a there-and-back side trip, off the regular "loop" route. Afterwards, we'll retrace our route back to the Kentucky Lakes and linger a bit before heading down the Tennessee River.

Our backyard for the night. They're hard to see in the photo, but we enjoyed watching the two little fawns on shore. |
