Stats:
Hoppies to Little River Diversion Canal. 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 110 miles
We left Hoppies in a bit of a convoy, five boats, heading down the Mississippi. Some of the boats cut off about 45 miles later to tie up to a lock wall for the night. We opted to carry on. The trip down the river was uneventful. We took turns at the helm. We each had a little cat nap, Jeff on the bow, me on the little bench up here on the flybridge.
There are not many places to stop on these industrial rivers. We pulled into a water diversion canal that was recommended on Active Captain (an online travel guide) and anchored behind another boat, Gypsea, in about seventeen feet of water. It was peaceful, a little buggy and safe.
We had a quick dinner, watched a bit of a movie and fell asleep, exhausted.
Tomorrow we will finish off the Mississippi and head onto the Ohio River, which is apparently also an industrial river. We are taking some long days to get past the industrial part of the trip. Another couple of days and we'll be on the Kentucky Lakes, which are supposed to be beautiful and according to the charts and our travel guides, chalk full of great anchorages!!
Here are a few shots from our way down the Mississippi:

The Mighty Mississippi. A less industrial section. |
Also known as "The Big Muddy" (and rightly so!) |

These brave dudes were canoeing amongst the barges. One tow captain gave us a heads-up as they were right in the centre of the channel and hard to see. |
