Fort Lauderdale

Tonight, after a breezy but easy cruise through Miami, we are anchored in quiet Lake Sylvia, which is really not a lake at all but a wider canal area amongst the canals of Fort Lauderdale.  Multi-million dollar homes and boats surround us.  There is a LOT of money in this town.

Today was a travel day.  We cruised along the Intercoastal Waterway through the towering buildings of Miami to Fort Lauderdale and it was pretty much urban the entire way.  For sure there was no shortage of things to look at.  We saw a manatee just off the channel and it certainly explains the reason they all have large gashes on their backs.  Many boats ignore the “No wake” signs and speed   That poor manatee would never be able to get out of the way in time.

We dinghied over to a local restaurant that lets boaters tie up and shop if they eat there.  We had lunch then walked across the street to buy our groceries.  Tomorrow we have a date with the fuel truck.  That’s how they do it here.  Very few marinas have fuel, so you call the truck and they come meet you at your slip.  For us, that’s a bit of a problem as we have been anchoring out lately.  So tomorrow we get to wake up at six o’clock a.m. and travel to a boat yard that will allow us to tie up long enough to get our fuel delivered at 7:30.  Ugh.  The price is right though!  So it’s worth it.
