Key West 2 - Life On A Ball

Just another day in paradise.  Life on a mooring ball is just as I imagined it.  There are lots of interesting folks around and they are pretty friendly for the most part.  Life moves slowly here.  We made our way over to the office to get ourselves checked in around 11:00 this morning.  We grabbed a bite to eat in town and low and behold, there was a Napa store right there, so Jeff ordered our new batteries.  The afternoon was spent dingy riding around to get our bearings, chatting with other boaters and just hanging out.  Jeff began the chore of getting our bikes to shore in the dingy but we only got one over there.  The other one maybe we'll get to tomorrow.

The big action for today was fish watching. The water is very clear and we noticed all these little fish swimming around our boat.  We haven't noticed them at anyone else's boat,  just ours.  We think maybe they're feeding on something on our hull?  We're not sure.  We were leaned over the gunnels watching them when Jeff noticed dark shadows lurking on the bottom  (cue in music from "JAWS").  Where there are little fish I guess big fish follow!  There were several five or six foot long fish swimming under our boat.  We could see them quite clearly when they moved but the camera couldn't capture them as well.

We were thinking about swimming but we figured first we better find out what those big fish are and why they're hanging around our boat.  A taste for Canadian tourists maybe?  They were there for several hours.  We tried in vain to get a good picture and eventually Jeff got in the kayak, which has a little viewing window on the bottom, and tried to get a pic through that.  Once Jeff got in the kayak they slowly swam away.  I guess swimming would be okay.
