Lake Worth

The first task of the day was to get fuel and the best (read, cheapest) way to do that in Fort Lauderdale is LukFuel.  Fuel in the Keys and up the Miami/Fort Lauderdale coast is very expensive.  LukFuel is a business that will deliver fuel directly to your boat.  To make our appointment with the truck on time we had to get up at 6:00 a.m. and travel through the canals of Fort Lauderdale in the dark to our prearranged meeting point.  It was pretty awesome.  We were the only boat moving and with our chart plotter dimmed down for dark we could easily find our way. The city looks so beautiful at that hour, just as dawn is cresting.

We fueled up and then retraced our steps back through the downtown area, only this time in the light.  We got stuck behind a large, slow moving ship that was being towed through the canals.  They had one tow boat in front and another behind as the boat was too long to make it around the tight curves without someone pushing it’s butt end around.  Interesting.

After fueling up we made our way back down the canal, following a very large ship being moved by two smaller boats.  One tow boat and one on the rear, acting as a stern thruster to get the big guy around corners.  It was slow but interesting to watch.  We hear the really big ships are not allowed to transit the smaller canal under their own power as they're so hard to manoeuvre.

The day was spent travelling through million dollar boats and homes, camera snapping.  Incredible. We marvelled at the decadence.  Not our style, but it must be for many as there sure are a lot of them.

Note the red helicopter and, just to put things in perspective,
the guy standing beside it.

That's about a 28' boat off the aft of that ship.  Holy!

Waiting for our turn to go
through the bridge at
Delray Beach

Later, we travelled past some familiar ground for me.  I used to often visit the Delray Beach and Boyton Beach area.  I remember so clearly standing on those bridges watching the boats go by, wondering what it would be like to cruise on one.  And now, here we are!  Life unfolds in mysterious ways.

We’re anchored in Lake Worth tonight, not too far off the icw in a very rolly-polly anchorage.  Tomorrow’s plans, well, we’re not sure.  We’ll see how the day unfolds.  Our target is to be up to Cape Canaveral by March 25 for a tour and to watch a scheduled launch, something we've both always wanted to do.

Our backyard tonight.  Check out the cruise ship!
It's just heading out through the channel to the Atlantic.

Doesn't it look like it's parked in the trees! hehe
